Blah Humbug… ?@#$%
Still struggling? I know, me too. The stress of buying the perfect present is on the list of challenges! Not everyone can afford ‘Oprah’s Favorite Things,’ and adding to the anxiety is those dag-nabit signs in the stores flashing “Only 15 days til’ Christmas!” The panic ensues- What to get? Will they like it? Will our budget afford it? Do they already have it? Is it cheesy, (oh cheese~good idea)… Help! What do I do?
I consulted a wise friend who told me her idea of the perfect gift; she told me that this year she is giving herself as a present. She is going to be more PRESENT to her children, her husband, her friends, and her neighbors. Instead of buying things as presents, she is giving the gift of her presence by making TIME. She is not sending cards this year; she is calling her friends and setting up a lunch date - the invaluable gift of time. Time is the one thing that we can never seem to get enough thus it’s challenging to part with yet, it’s an amazing GIFT! Most of us have enough ‘stuff’, but become depleted in our relationships when we have not allowed ourselves the time to nurture them. TIME and PRESENCE are the gifts that feed our soul long after the Christmas fudge is gone.
P.S. Our son, Luke came home from school excitedly exclaiming that he had told his class we celebrate Hanukah, not Advent. I explained that the wreath he was so excited to light each night was, in fact, called an “Advent Wreath”, key word being ADVENT. I explained that his Aunt Renee was Jewish and in the spirit of her tradition we could celebrate both. He was definitely more excited about Hanukah since it lent itself to his candle lighting fetish!
Have fun lighting the second ADVENT candle this week; or the Menorah! Christmas and Hanukah Blessings!
Okay, and by the way… I have been totally out-elfed by my own Team Amosson; the following link is at least 4x better than the previous one I had sent. Thanks Aunt Jessica for bringing the Amosson Elf’s to the ‘small screen’! This is our fab four in action! Not, unlike and average day at our house : )
